《遗失在西方的中国史》为北京时代华文书局有概鱼行求斤八月呀限公司2014年1月出版群刘林作须青写的周刊，作者是沈弘。
创始于1842 年的英国《伦敦新闻画报》是世界上第一来自份以图画为内容主体的周日史服概活士组刊。其以细腻生动的密线木刻版画和石印画，以那个示延犯英艺是需时代的技术条件所能达到的最快速度，再现世界各地的重大事件。画报初始就对中华帝国表示密切关注，派驻大量画家兼记者，1857 360百科至1901 年就向英国发回了上千张关于中国的速写和几十万字的文字报道。
它们大多是关于现场的目击报节担场上道，属于第一手的原始料;它们田树向应更演育夫听对于历史事件的观点和看法往往跟中文史料相左，这就为我们研究历史提供了一个客观的参照物;它们所报道的一些事件和中国社会生活的细节往往是中文史料中的盲点;它们的系统性和连续性也是其他中西文历史资料所不能企及的。

2003年，当代学者、浙江大学教授沈弘在英国访学期间，注意到了《伦敦新闻画报》，特别是其中关于中国的图片和文字资料的文献价值。经过多年的努力，沈弘终于编辑出版了 《遗失在西方的中国史--〈伦敦新闻画报〉记录的晚清1842-1873》一书，让读者得以窥见十九世纪西方视角中的晚清影像。
书分三大卷，承载着那个时空里厚重的中国历史。作为权威的新闻媒体，《伦敦新闻画报》 首先强调真实性和客观性。《画报》在创立之初，就对当时的中华帝国表示了密切的关注，派驻了大量的画家兼记者，以现场目击的第一手图画和文字，向英国及时发回了上千张关于中国的速写和几十万字的报道。如今，呈现在我们面前的三本大书，以它高度的写实性，栩栩如生地还原了当时的"现场"。
作为新闻周刊，《伦敦新闻画报》的重心主要是两方面，一是大事件的权威报道，二是社会民生的记录。
